The first is the mix with least metamarism and the next two are with more metamarism.ģ. Yes there are several ways to mix many colours and the system gives you the 3 scientifically best choises. Yes you have to select one of the brands we have measured or it won’t work properly.Ģ. that being said, there are many who will spend all day mixing color and not get any painting done.Ī few comments from the creaters of the system.ġ. it won’t help in the aesthetic nuances of color. I think what this program might do is if you see a nice color online and you want to replicate it closely, this program will help you. what was once an aesthetic decision is now being broken down in order to be codified, and might i add doing so backwards. in other words, you have literally added a couple of additional steps, thus making the whole process more complicated than it should be. you have to find the yellow you want(maybe something from an online image) and let the program identify it. you can’t use the program to pick the yellow for you. so, say you have 3 shapes, one you colored a muted prussian, another you colored as a middle grey that leans to reddish, and you want to find a good color for the third shape…what do you do? maybe you even decided it’s going to be some form of yellow. The program doesn’t deal with color in relation to other colors, either. if it picks the color of a specific pixel, then it’ll really mess you up because if you pixilate any given AREA of color you will see dozens of different colored pixels….so which one is it? Specific top this program, there is also how it picks your desired color. Add colors as you are mixing, to come as close to your target color as possible. Then, merely look at your mixture as you are mixing it, and compare it to your target color, as you mix it. So then,….how do you go about mixing color logically? Look at it your “target color”, and select from your array of tubed colors those paints that will stand the best chance of contributing the correct amounts of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow to the mixture to achieve the appearance of the target color. There are many reasons that the “recipe approach” fails quite miserably as a logical method of mixing color. It may require much more paint, by volume, of a student grade paint to achieve the same resulting color, as it would if you were using an artist grade paint. In other words, it is not the “volume of paint” that is important (which is usually indicated in most recipes), but “amount of color” represented by that volume of paint. Third, when one mixes colors, the end result can best be determined by the amount of color one adds to the mixture, rather than amount of paint. For example, Thalo Blue is of such a high tinting strength that to measure an amount small enough to include as an ingredient in a “color recipe” is nearly impossible. Second, there are a few tubed colors of paint that are of such high tinting strength that one could hardly devise a logical method of measuring them out in specific portions accurately. How could you possible use measured volumes of those paints in a recipe. Just think about how many color versions of Naples Yellow, Yellow Ocher, or Burnt Umber there are in terms of their actual hues. First, tubed colors from different manufacturers are seldom the same. There are several reasons they don’t work. The “recipe approach”, such as “One part of this color, to three parts of that color, just doesn’t work from a practical standpoint. I also want to make this transparent that I am in no way affiliated to this site or getting paid to do this I know that nothing supersedes practice and learning to mix by eye but can this help in forming a strong foundation and to see how colors behave with each other ? There are also some pages where the master palettes seem to be decoded of some of the classic oil paintings.ĭo you think this could be a tool to help and understand the color theory / mixing better ? Here I have found this paint mixer which gives calculated recipes for color samples uploaded on this site. I was browsing the internet today and looking for information to brush up my color mixing skills and understanding hues, I found this site called As quite a few people here already know that I am a beginner with oil paints as I have been in touch with them for their valuable guidance and help (and thankyou very much for that ) ! (i am getting better and better gradually )
